Death example
As stated in another blog post I wanted to make a quick piece around the theme of death to test where I could potentially go with my work. I created a short piece only 52 seconds long with only a few sounds fitted together to see how experimental I could possibly make it. I think it turned out ok. Obviously, if I was to take this further within my final piece I would make it longer to fit the time restraints of the assessment and also use many more sounds and plan my piece in greater detail. The following piece of audio only consists of 5 different pieces of audio so isn't very detailed and could be improved greatly.
I used sounds in the above piece for diffrent reasons and to convey different things within them. It is impossible to know what happens after death and so I had to use my imagination. I will list the sounds and reasoning below.
I used sounds in the above piece for diffrent reasons and to convey different things within them. It is impossible to know what happens after death and so I had to use my imagination. I will list the sounds and reasoning below.
- Underwater sound: I used this because I think there wouldn't be many sounds to surround you after death and it would almost be like drowning. You're alone with the feeling of being underwater mentally but not physically.
- Breathing: The first gasps of breath are supposed to represent what it's like to wake up 'on the other side'. You are awoken for the first time so you have to quickly catch your breath. This breathing is similar to being resusitated. The second breathing is calmer than the first but gives a scared feeling which is what most people would feel waking up in and unknown place alone.
- Footsteps: The fast footsteps represent running away and this is because after the person has just woken up and do not recognise their surroundings the first thought would be to get out of there and so that is what they attempt to do. I gave the footsteps a wet aesthetic to match the underwater feeling of the rest.
- Thunderstorm: When the underwater sound stops the thunderstorm starts almost like they've made it out of where they originally are but have now changed location to another gloomy place which again the use of the running footsteps indicate they're trying to escape.
