Original idea

Adding on to my last blog post about my thought process I came up with an idea about creating a piece based on someones daily life. I wanted to mix in different sounds in an attempt to portray the different part of the day however I was going to include something of more interest in there. I was going to include almost a plot twist that perhaps during the day that person has been killed and the audio piece would cut in and out from their normal everyday routine to that of the accident happening. This idea originally came from one of my other pieces in the post labelled Advanced pro tools. However with this idea I am worried it would follow too much of a narrative which is something that I am trying to avoid and therfore may not be experimental enough. But this does include the idea of what happens after death so maybe I can try and incorporate that further into my piece and see where it takes me.

Thought Process

At this point I am currently struggling on where I can go with an idea. We were advised to make our piece on something we are intrested in or passionate about. We have been previously shown and example of work based around stress and anxiety which I really enjoyed and although slightly disturbing it was an all round good piece. For me mental health is definitely something I would consider creating a piece on because it is very prominent in todays society and I feel it is a topic we can all stay clued up on. But as can be seen on this blog in Week 3 - The sonic enviroment myself and my partner had already worked together on a project about lonliness and desolation which we based around the idea of mental health specifically depression and anxiety so I don't really want to make a piece on the same topic because I am worried it'll be too similar; for the main reason that most of my ideas already surrounding the topic had already gone into that piece. One topic that does intrig...

Experimenting with Audio

For this session we had to pick any theme we wanted and create an experimental piece on it. Myself and my partner ran through many possible ideas coming to the concluding idea of Gordon Ramsey. As he is known well for his foul language and tv programmes such as Kitchen Nightmares and Hells Kitchen we thought he could be an interesting topic to create a piece on. We had hoped for more in our final piece but unfortunately due to some issues with the computer we had to restart and therefore did not complete the piece how we wanted. If we were to edit it to improve we would start by using snippets of the theme tunes of the shows so that the song did not take over the whole piece but was still a strong element to the piece. We would also add some of the sound effects often used in the series themselves. I will embed it below.

Advanced Pro Tools

During this session we looked further into effects in Pro Tools. We experimented with tools such as EQ and how the different options can help us create new sounds that are taken in different locations and areas. Such as changing the EQ to sound as if it's coming from inside a large church. We also used a bus to create EQ on so if we wanted to use the same EQ on another effect we could do so easily without creating a huge file. We also looked at reverb which helped to extend sounds as an echo helping us beuild a scene. With the use of buses we were able to put an effect on multiple tracks so we didnt have to re create it everytime. The idea behind this was so we could use these effects in our final pieces to make them more intresting and give them an experiemental feel. One thing we also went over that I did not incorporate into this piece but would like to use in my final piece is the reverse. I think the reverse could be a very unique idea that when used in a specific way can ma...
